Below are a few commonly asked questions about Electrolysis:
What is Electrolysis? Is it permanent?
Electrolysis is a progressively permanent method of hair removal, which involves the gradual destruction of the cells in the hair follicle, which allow hair to grow.
What will I feel?
A very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, which cannot be felt, a small amount of current is then released, for a second, via the probe and a sensation of heat will be experienced. The degree of sensation a client feels will vary between individuals and also depends on the area being treated.
How often will I require treatments? How many do I need?
Initially you will require a treatment every 7 – 14 days, lasting anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated, healing capacity and client comfort. As the hair growth shows treatments will become less frequent before diminishing.
The length of time you will need to keep having treatments depends on the type of hair being treated as well as contributing factors such as hormonal balance, previous hair removal methods and healing ability.
It is difficult to provide an exact time-frame for completion of treatment, however you will see some results within 3 months of regular prescribe visits (i.e. the hairs will become finer, lighter and more scarce, and visits will become less frequent).
It is vital to the success of your treatment that the area being treated is not waxes or plucked between visits. (“Cutting back” is fine).
How much will it cost?
Treatment cost is based on time, which varies from 5 minutes ($15.00) up to 40 minutes ($45.00). On average most clients require anywhere between 5-15 minutes of treatment. All prices include the cost of a fully disposable single-use probe.
What should I do before and after my treatment?
Prior to Electrolysis we recommend:
- No stimulants just before visit, e.g. Coffee, Cigarettes
- No heavy make-up or oils on the skin
Aftercare:
- It is normal for most clients to experience some redness or mild swelling which only lasts a couple of house.
- It is important to keep the area clean and dry following treatment and an antiseptic ointment/cream is to be applied daily for 3-4 days. We use a tinted antiseptic coverage cream after treatment, which is available for purchase at the Salon.
In addition we also recommend (for first 24-28 hours):
- No sun baking/Solarium
- No Swimming/Spa/Sauna
- No Make-up
- Keep hands away from area
- No waxing/plucking (Only “Cut-back” if necessary)

If small scabs form (which are part of the normal healing process for some clients) do not pick, as they will fall of by their own accord.

Our professional ‘pressurised’ Spray System
provides an even healthy (non-orange)
colour, which can be varied from lightly
‘sun-kissed’ to the darkest of European Tans
– the choice is yours! It is pleasant smelling,
non-streaking and dries quickly.
We recommend a full exfoliation to gently
remove dead, surface skin cells – which is
available for purchase at the salon prior to
Tan application. Tan emulsion may also be
purchased for use at home.

BEAUTY ON WALNUT SPRAY TANNING GUIDELINES
Spray Tanning lasts between 5 – 7 days
To ensure the BEST results from your Spray Tan Application it is vital to follow these important points:
BEFORE TANNING:
- Exfoliate for 2 – 4 days with a mixture of white sugar and a liquid soap wash.
- No moisturiser for a minimum of 24 hours.
- No perspiration e.g. No excessive exercise prior to Tan Application
- No perfume or deodorant.
- Wear loose clothing and thongs.
AFTER TANNING:
- Do not shower for a minimum of 8 hours.
- After showering – always gently pat dry skin.
- Only use a liquid soap wash.
- No “prolonged” swimming.
- Apply liberal amounts of moisturiser.
NB: We do not recommend Spray Tanning any skin area where there is excessive dry, scaly skin, e.g. Eczema, Psoriasis, etc as product build-up can occur in these areas.
